SMS Exporter: Privacy Policy

Your messages and contacts stay on your phone: we never collect or store them. No account is needed. Usage statistics and crash reports, which never contain your messages, help us improve the App.

1. Overview

SMS Exporter ("the App") is published by SMARTPOSITIVE SARL ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what the App accesses on your phone, what is sent to the services it relies on, and why.

The App requires no user account and never asks for your name, e-mail address or phone number.

2. What the App accesses, on your phone only

SMS and MMS: to display your conversations and create the export files you ask for.
Contacts: to show the names of the people in your conversations.
Files: exported files are saved on your phone, in the App, until you delete them.

The App processes your messages and contacts locally. They are never sent to us or to any of the services listed below.

Your exported files leave your phone only when you share them yourself, by e-mail, cloud storage or another app of your choice. These files contain your messages, so choose carefully where you send them. Once they are shared, the service you chose applies its own rules.

3. Usage statistics and crash reports

To improve the App, it sends technical data to Google services:

Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics): an app instance identifier, device type, OS version, approximate country derived from your IP address, the screens used, and export statistics such as the number of conversations and messages exported and the format chosen. On Android, Firebase may also use the advertising ID of your phone, unless you have deleted it.
Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): the technical description of the error, device type, OS version and App version.
Remote settings (Firebase Remote Config): the App downloads its configuration values.

This data never contains the content of your messages, or the names or numbers of your contacts. We don't try to identify individual users from it, and we don't use it to contact you.

The App does not gather the precise location of your device.

4. In-app purchase

The optional purchase is handled by Google Play. We never receive your payment details.

5. Third-party services

The App relies on the following services, which have their own privacy policies:

We may disclose information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or respond to a government request.

6. Your choices

You can stop all collection by uninstalling the App. On Android, you can also delete your advertising ID in your phone settings (Settings, Privacy, Ads).

7. Data retention

Usage statistics are kept for up to 14 months on Google's servers, and crash reports for 90 days. Your messages are never retained by us. Files you exported stay on your phone until you delete them.

8. Your rights

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection under the GDPR. We can't link statistics to you, so we usually can't find what belongs to a specific user, but we will respond to any request sent to contact@smartpositive.com in a reasonable time. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL in France.

9. Children

The App does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take the necessary actions.

10. Security

We are concerned about safeguarding your information. Your messages are processed on your device and are protected by the security of your phone. Exchanges with online services are encrypted.

11. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The new version will be published at the same address with a new "Last updated" date.
