In short

No account to create: we don't ask for your name, e-mail address or phone number.
Your scores, settings and personal translations stay on your device (with a backup in your own iCloud or Google Drive).
Sharing your translations with the community is off by default and fully anonymous.
Usage statistics and crash reports help us improve the app.
The free version shows Google AdMob ads; the full version shows none.

1. Who we are

The Dictionnaire Arabe Tunisien app ("the app") is published by SMARTPOSITIVE SARL. It is free, with a full version available as an in-app purchase.

This policy explains what data is processed when you use the app, why, and what your rights are.

2. Data stored on your device

The following data is saved only on your device. We have no access to it:

your quiz scores, points and settings (displayed tab, audio autoplay, community sharing…);
the status of your full version purchase;
the personal translations you add to the dictionary (full version).

Backup. On iPhone and iPad, your personal translations are also saved in your iCloud account (Apple's iCloud storage), so you can find them after reinstalling and sync them between devices. This data is managed by Apple and is not sent to us.

On Android, the app's data may be included in your device's automatic backup to your Google Drive account, depending on your Android settings.

3. Anonymous sharing of your translations (optional)

If you add your own translations, the app may offer to share them anonymously with the community, to help us enrich the dictionary. This sharing:

is off by default and only happens if you accept it;
can be turned on or off at any time in the More tab, under Community;
only covers the text of the translation (in French and Tunisian), its sending date, the device system (iOS or Android) and an anonymous identifier generated by Firebase.

No data that could identify you is attached to these translations. They are stored on Google Firebase servers (Cloud Firestore) and may be used, after review, to improve the dictionary. Don't include any personal information (name, address, number…) in your translations.

A translation already shared remains anonymous: we can't link it to you. Turning sharing off stops sending further translations.

To protect this service against abuse, the app uses Firebase App Check, which checks with Apple (App Attest, DeviceCheck) or Google (Play Integrity) that the request comes from the genuine app, installed on a real device.

4. Audio pronunciation

Some pronunciation audio files are downloaded from our website arabetunisien.com. Like any website, it then receives your IP address and the word requested. This data is only used to send you the file.

5. Third-party services

The app relies on the following services, which may process technical data about your device:

Google Firebase Analytics: usage statistics (screens viewed, main actions). Data involved: app instance identifier, device model, system version, approximate country, usage events.
Google Firebase Crashlytics: detecting and fixing crashes. Data involved: technical crash report, device model, system and app version.
Google AdMob (free version): displaying ads. Data involved: advertising identifiers (if you allow it), IP address, technical information about the device.
Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, App Check): optional community sharing (section 3). Data involved: shared translations, anonymous identifier, app attestation.
Apple App Store and Google Play: purchase of the full version. Payment is processed by Apple or Google: we never receive your payment details.

These services have their own privacy policies: Google, Firebase, AdMob, Apple.

On iPhone, you can limit ad tracking in Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking. On Android, in Settings, Privacy, Ads. Upgrading to the full version removes all ads.

6. External links

The app contains links to external websites (official website, privacy policy). These sites have their own privacy policies.

7. Children

The app is not specifically aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data about them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us so that we can delete it.

8. Security and retention

Exchanges with online services are encrypted (HTTPS). Shared translations are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the dictionary. Data stored on your device is deleted when you uninstall the app, except backups in your own iCloud or Google Drive account, which you can manage in your device settings.

9. Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection and restriction of processing. As the data managed directly by the app is stored on your device or anonymous, most of these rights can be exercised from the app itself:

delete your personal translations: More tab, My translations;
stop community sharing: More tab, Community;
reset your scores: More tab, Quiz.

For any other request, contact us (section 11). You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.

10. Changes

This policy may be updated, in particular when new features are added. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page.
